AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP
Citizenship by Conferral
a) For permanent resident
b) For eligible New Zealand citizens
For those who have held permanent resident visas or are eligible New Zealand citizens, for at least 12 months prior to application and have lived in Australia in the most recent 4 years on a valid visa before application for citizenship.
General Residency Requirements
i) Not absent from Australia for more than 1 year
in total during the immediate 4-years before
application;
ii) Not absent from Australia for more than 90
days in total during the immediate 1 year before
application.
A dependent child who also holds Australian permanent residence status, aged 15 years or younger may also be included in the parent’s application at no additional cost.
Citizenship by Descent
If a person is born outside Australia to one (or both) parent(s) who is/or was an Australian citizen at the time of your birth.
Citizenship by Birth
If a person is/was born in Australia to one (or both) parent(s) who are permanent residents and citizens of Australia, they would be automatically be eligible for citizenship.
Eligible : Immediately at birth
OR
If they have lived in Australia since birth up on a lawful immigration status.
